Ali Berresford's Ironman Brazil PledgePage

As some of you may be aware - I am training for my first ironman. This website is a little insight on how I got to this point... warning.. some of the photos are scary!

In 4 weeks on May 29th 2005 - I will be swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running 26.2 miles in and around the beautiful city of Florianopolis, Brazil. I am hoping that the beaches and the exotic location will distract me in my 14+hr endeavor. (Who am I kidding, in my 16hr+ endeavor!!)

Why am I subjecting myself to such physical torment, you might be asking yourself? When I started this - it was because the Ironman race is the next distance up in triathlon races and because it was out there to do as a personal challenge. I wanted to show that if I can do it.. ANYONE can do it.. And of course, I wanted the bragging rights...

During the course of my hours of training (believe me you get a lot of time to think).... the thought kept niggling that I could/should be doing this to do something "good" too. Its not all altruistic - I am also being selfish - because there is no way I will ever consider quitting if I have a reason other than me to keep going!

Hence this page - a request to please donate whatever you can to the cause. Deciding on one was hard but in the end I decided to raise money for Habitat for Humanity in Brazil.

If you are wondering what is an appropriate donation I thought I would provide some numeric inspiration..

26.2 - the marathon distance in miles
15 - the number of hours I am hoping this race will take me
20 - the number of hot triathlete guy's numbers I will ask for during the race (I will carry a sharpee!)
0 - the number of pounds I have lost in training (the ladies will appreciate that one!)
50 - the number of pounds I will gain afterwards through NO EXERCISE!
25 - the number of beers I will drink after the race!

What you get in return for your donation
- A very personalized email recounting every minute of my 14+hr race
- A portion of time during the race as I think of you and thank you for supporting me
- The satisfaction of building something solid and sustainable
- Your name written on my very high-tech t-shirt! Group donations encouraged! Get together with a bunch of your buddies to get pride of place

Donations can be made through any means!!! By cash or by check .. or even through paypal.. Please check out the link to donations on the side of this page. I will keep you posted on progess! Please dig deep and please forward to anyone else you might think would be interested in contributing!
